A porcelain vase with white recessed reserves painted in five colours (wucai technique) the blue areas are painted in underglaze cobalt blue and, after firing, other colours are added with overglaze enamels in other colours (yellow, green, purple, and black). The motifs present figurative scenes from palace life. The remainder of the surface is covered in “moonlight” blue cobalt under the glaze with gilt overglaze ornamentation.
